When did everyone start saying «moat» like every other word? ~via Matt Wurst
I couldn't agree more with Matt. The “moat” isn’t a buzzword, it’s the loyalty you earn by showing up, building trust, and creating real connection. Products can be copied. Features fade. Tech shifts. But relationships, when nurtured, compound in value.
That’s what I mean when I say RETURN ON RELATIONSHIP… the long-term dividend of trust, consistency, and genuine care. In the end, loyalty isn’t built in boardrooms or dashboards, it’s built one conversation, one experience, one relationship at a time. /Ted
𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 "𝗺𝗼𝗮𝘁" 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱?
It's the new favorite cliche du jour, having replaced "LTV" in our daily vernacular.
It’s been a minute since I dropped the LTV word (or letters?).
But it’s still the undisputed champion of brand objectives and outcomes.
You want it. You need it.
As my friend Ted Rubin says: "Return on Relationship." That’s the stuff.
As competition heats up and products all start looking the same, customer relationships are the only 𝗺𝗼𝗮𝘁 that lasts.
Brands that invest in trust, emotional connection, and long-term engagement will outlast those chasing price, features, or fleeting trends.
And in a world (𝘤𝘶𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘳 𝘨𝘶𝘺 𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦 🎙️) of "AI-powered" everything, no-contact checkouts & infinite choice, the winners are the brands that make people feel understood, remembered & VALUED.
👉 So the moat isn’t tech or bigger ad spend. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆. Built one real relationship at a time.
