At A Certain Point, This Lindsay Clancy Stuff Has Become Male Bloodlust ~via Ted Bauer
Well done… this is pretty much right on point. Not every tragedy needs to become another battle in the gender wars. Understanding before outrage… we could use a lot more of that. -Ted
People don't even seem to understand how the legal system works.
Two years ago, during the great gender war Presidential election, Johnny Harris over on YouTube did a video each about Donny T. and Kamala. In his Kamala video, the entire comments section was people not understanding what a prosecutor is. (That was a major job she had in her come-up.) My wife is actually a prosecutor, although she does civil work and not criminal, but multiple people around us have asked her if she’s a defense attorney, a probate attorney, “so what exactly do you do,” etc. And these are relatively well-educated people. The legal system is not that complicated, although it can twist and turn in weird ways, but I don’t think many people understand it so well.
In the case of Lindsay Clancy, no one is doubting she killed her children. She admitted that part. Sure, maybe some wine moms on the Internet have conspiracy theories about her husband, and while those women get a lot of attention and get their Stories clipped by others, it’s really a small amount of people saying that. Most logical people understand that she did it. She will be in the custodial care of the state one way or another.
The trial is really about whether she goes to prison, which she’d likely attend with accomodations anyway because she’s paralyzed, or she goes to what we used to call a mental facility. Either scenario, though, she’s not a free woman. Most of the chuds you will see discussing this case online frame it as “Oh God, society is going to crumble because this woman killed her kids and will walk free back into society to have more children and then kill them.” Almost everything in that sentence is wrong.
Now, it is true that if she goes into what we’d call a state institution, she can be re-assessed at periodic intervals, and she might someday walk out of there with less fanfare and less attention, because it will probably be two decades or more down the line. Prison she’d be less likely to emerge from, unless the sentence has a “parole possible” section. Plenty of mental health cases do see people ultimately go free, I.e. Morgan Geyser, and sometimes they do OK and blend into the background of polite society and sometimes they do dumb shit and go back into the system.
Some of it — the dialogue around this woman, that is — feels like male bloodlust. They want to see her hang, and they want to see other men break up with their girlfriends who see a sliver of support for her, and all of it. It feels like, sometimes, this trial is similar to Depp vs. Heard in that it’s supposedly going to make some grand societal statement about the role of women and how women lie and do bad things. In reality, I don’t think anyone will even mention Lindsay Clancy in about a month. We will be onto other things to yell about. In 15 years, the Boston Globe (provided it exists) will do an interview with her in jail. Some people will see it online, nod, and say, “Oh yea…”
This is a case about a woman who killed her kids — there are many such cases in America, averaging about one per week if you do the math — and will face some sort of punishment and will be housed separately from you. You will not see her at Kroger or Piggly Wiggly. She is not going to be a member of polite society for a few minutes here. And if this trial is deadlocked, I am sure the prosecutors will re-file the charges — unless they have an insight into the jury room where multiple people were sympathetic to her, etc.
It is definitely true that some facet of male pain gets ignored by society, and men do a horrible job with handling resentment and often end up hating women as a result. We are witnessing a moderate decline of young men in real-time here in these streets, yes, and the Clancy Case is another example. To some dudes on the Internet, this is a straight quest for bloodlust — down with women, down with feminism, down with the Pink Ladies, down with every woman who ever laughed at me when I asked for a date or told her friends I didn’t get hard enough.
I think we can just cool it on the bloodlust portion and have a little discussion about women, how we support them, how husbands can be better, and maybe not cheering for a van holding a child-killer.
Just take a deep breath and realize she’s still getting hers for what she did, guys.
